From Spreadsheets to Saving Mankind

I have a thing for spreadsheets and have for decades. In a recent backup, I found 10 Excel spreadsheets in my Math History folder. The largest spreadsheet holds the entire history of Mathematics and is 998 KB. Yeah, it is big. It starts from 40,000 BC with the first artifact found in Africa and leads to the implementation of Common Core. It includes Babylon’s first calendar from 4,700 BC, Heron’s practical geometry in 150 A.D., and the amazing preservation of Greece’s math books by Islam’s greatest mathematicians. I am Gabrielle, and I am a spreadsheet addict. (This is where you say, “Hello Gabrielle.”) Before I owned a personal computer, I hand made my own spreadsheets. I am very emotionally attached to these spreadsheets. Thirty Days to Look Back

As of today, I have 30 days to look back. Yesterday evening, after eight years of dispensing thousands of Tweets, I deactivated my Twitter account. I left four personal tweets thanking my 11,000 followers. This, according to my teenage boy and the Season Twenty South Park writers, is known as a Twitter suicide note. I committed Twitter suicide. The first 4,000 to 7,000 of those followers were those who watched my show, who watched my pundit videos, who watched my stand up, and who read my political rants. They either laughed along with me or laughed at me as I interviewed irrational protestors, grass-root organizers, fake celebrities, and up-and-coming politicians. They supported me, commented, and always had my back when trolls would attack. And, most importantly, they came to my live shows. Then there were those who stood by me when I quit comedy. See her face, hear her voice

This weekend’s march reminded me of one of my favorite sculptures at the Louvre, Nike of Samothrace, also known as Winged Victory of Samothrace. If you are ever fortunate to visit the Louvre in Paris and stand before this eight-foot tall, Greek original, stunning sculpture, I promise you; you will fall in love with her. She is a monument robed in white Parian marble drapery, crafted with shading and depth.
